FASTag not fixed on your windscreen? The Indian Highways Authority has issued new guidelines for toll payments on national highways. As per the latest guidelines, all vehicles will have to have a valid FASTag on their windscreen or risk paying double toll at highway toll plazas. The new measure is aimed at speeding up the toll collection process and discouraging users from deliberately not displaying FASTag on their vehicles.

The statement said that new standard operating procedures will be issued at all toll plazas and warnings will be displayed at all toll plazas informing users of the penalty. The statement also said that at toll plazas, CCTV footage of vehicles without FASTags on their windscreens will be recorded for record purposes and the registration number of the vehicle will be displayed. FASTAg also carries the risk of being blacklisted.
NHAI said it has also instructed all FASTag issuing banks to ensure that FASTag is affixed to the vehicle allotted to them at the time of issuance at their respective dealerships. FASTag has been mandatory for all passenger vehicles since February 15, 2021, and is the primary source of toll collection on highways.
Vehicles without a valid FASTag or users paying through cash have to pay double the toll at all toll plazas. Currently, all new vehicles are fitted with FASTag by dealers, while owners of older vehicles can purchase FASTag from a list of 39 registered financial institutions, including most of the major banks.
