The sales report for compact SUVs has rolled in for September 2024. Demand in this segment has been consistent month on month, with a growth of over 2 per cent. The Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara again topped the charts, but the new Tata Curvv SUV-coupe took the spot for highest growth in the month. Key Takeaways
Despite seeing a MoM decrease of 5 per cent in demand, the Hyundai Creta emerged as the leader of compact SUVs in terms of sales numbers for the month of September 2024. It was approximately at nearly 16,000 units and topped in maximum market share of nearly 32 per cent in the segment for that particular month.
Even though the MoM figure of the Maruti SUV witnessed a jump of nearly 14 per cent, its YoY market share slipped by more than 3 per cent.
Kia managed to sell around 7,000 units of the Seltos in September. Month-over-month, sales for the Seltos gained nearly 6.5 per cent.
The badged version of the Grand Vitara, the Toyota Hyryder, witnessed a decline of over 17.5 per cent in the monthly sales volume.
The newly launched Tata Curvv SUV-coupe is one of the new entrants to the compact SUV space in India, posting a growth of close to 38 per cent last month. The vehicle dispatched more than 4,700 units in the month of September. Note that these figures are for both Tata Curvv ICE and Tata Curvv EV.
For Honda, Elevate in September outsold October by 237 units and also witnessed almost an 8 per cent loss in terms of market share on a YoY basis.
Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun together brought in well over 3,300 buyers during September 2024.
The MG Astor sold about 978 units in the country in September 2024, falling short of the mark of over 1,000 units for the month. Its market share during the month stood merely a shade over 1.5 per cent.
Cumulatively, the Citroen Basalt SUV-coupe and Citroen C3 Aircross did not achieve sales units in September 2024 that reached more than half a thousand. Their aggregated share in the segment did not attract more than 1% more in said month.
