Xiaomi Eyes Nurburgring EV Lap Record with 1500+ BHP SU7 Ultra

Xiaomi’s first electric car will have a new flagship model focused on track use. Presented as a pre-production prototype, the new SUV7 Ultra features several changes to the standard SU7 to achieve faster lap times on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Xiaomi announced that the prototype will hit the track in October this year, while the production model is expected to hit the legendary track sometime in 2025.

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype: Design Upgrade

Compared to the standard SU7, the Ultra prototype features a significant aerodynamic overhaul. From the front, the new bumper features a striking front splitter and redesigned ventilation slots, while the front fenders have also been redesigned. The bonnet has dual exhaust outlets to release trapped air, while aggressive side skirt cladding, an oversized rear wing, and a huge rear diffuser complete the look.

The aggressive aerodynamics isn’t just for show: Xiaomi claims that the upgrades allow the SU7 Ultra to develop 2145kg of down force. Additionally, Xiaomi says that all the body panels of the standard SU7 have been replaced with carbon fiber components to reduce weight. The company claims that the SU7 Ultra prototype weighs 1,900kg, more than 300kg lighter than a standard SU7 Max and more than 300kg lighter than a Taycan Turbo S with the Weissach package.

And the upgrades don’t stop there. Under the hood of the SU7 Ultra Prototype are three electric motors, all developed in-house by Xiaomi. They are equipped with a pair of electric motors that the company calls the “V8s” series, producing 570 horsepower and 635 Nm, respectively, and a third V6 unit that produces 387 horsepower.

According to Xiaomi, this prototype is the company’s first model to use the new V8 series electric motor, while the SU7 so far has used a V6 series unit. The total system output is an astounding 1,527 horsepower, surpassing models such as the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT (1,020 horsepower), Tesla Model S Plaid (1,020 horsepower), Lucid Air Sapphire (1,217 horsepower), and even the Nio EP9 (1,360 horsepower).

Xiaomi claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of 1.97 seconds and the 200km/h mark will be reached in 5.96 seconds. With a top speed of over 350 km/h, the SU7 Ultra accelerates from 0 to 300 km/h in 15.07 seconds.

The brake calipers are made by AP Racing, a UK-based company that specializes in high-performance brakes and are paired with racing discs that can withstand temperatures of over 800 degrees Celsius. The SU7 Ultra also features an energy recuperation system that delivers deceleration of up to 0.6g.

Xiaomi claims that the SU7 Ultra can accelerate from 100 km/h to zero in just 25 meters. Speaking of the standard model, Xiaomi offers the SU7 in three variants: Standard, Pro, and Max, with the SU7 Max being the most powerful version currently. The company recently launched the sedan as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations in India. The SU7 Max features dual motors that produce a combined 664 horsepower and 838 Nm of torque.
