Sales data for compact and midsize hatchbacks for the month of September 2024 have been released. It claims that last month also Maruti Suzuki was in the top position in the sales chart. The top-selling hatchback of the last month was the Maruti Swift while another popular model – Wagon R – came in the second position. Let’s dig deeper into how all the compact and mid-size hatchbacks performed during the sales in September 2024.

The Maruti Swift topped the chart in September 2024. The car exporter shipped more than 16,200 units of the hatchback. It witnessed MoM growth of above 26 percent and YoY growth of 10 percent.
Its sales took a gigantic 19 percent MoM and 18 percent year-on-year tumble to 8,464 units for September 2024. It was the sole model after the Maruti Swift to surpass the sales level of more than 10,000 units in the previous month.
The best-seller next on the list is the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, which sold over 5,100 units and occupied third position in the sales chart. Even though the MoM figure of Hyundai hatchback dipped by around 5 percent, the car’s YoY sales figure declined by 2 percent.
The other hatch here is Tata Tiago which witnessed a loss in MoM as well as YoY sales with a decline of 11 and 38 percent respectively. Tata sold more than 4,200 units of the Tiago during September 2024. Note that the count also includes the sale of the Tata Tiago EV.
The Maruti Celerio shipped over 3,200 units for the fifth position in the table, posting a MoM positive of 2 percent although YoY sales were on a small decline.
Last rank
The Maruti Ignis held on to the last rank but was able to record a sales growth for September 2024 at nearly 2 percent of MoM and around 22 percent YoY increase.
